The Evangelical Seminary of Puerto Rico (ESPR) is an upper level theological education institution. Throughout its history, its primary purpose has been to respond to the demands of the founding denominations with a program of high quality theological education on the same levels found in modern seminaries and required by academic and professional criterions.

The theological schools and institutes which united in order to form the ESPR, were the following: the Portorricense Theological Seminary (Presbyterian), the Grace Conaway Institute (Baptist), the Robinson Institute (Methodist), and the Disciples of Christ Institute.

After a careful process of study and evaluation in the United States and Puerto Rico, our doors opened on September 11, 1919, to 24 students.

On August 1980, the ESPR started offering, in addition to the Masters in Divinity (M. Div.) aimed at the formation of the pastoral leadership, the program of Masters in Arts in Religion (M.A.R.). In this way, the Seminary responded to the demand of many interested in strengthening their faith and better serve their communities. Through the M.A.R., the Seminary aspires to serve a population of diverse professional backgrounds and experiences searching undergraduate studies in the religious fields.

Supported by six major denominations, the Seminary is fully accredited by the Association of Theological Schools in the US and Canada and by the Middle States Association; is an affiliate member of the Latin American Association of Theological Education Institutions, and the M.A.R. program is accredited by the Higher Education Council of PR.
