Lexington Theological Seminary seeks to prepare faithful leaders for the church of Jesus Christ. The Seminary is an integral part of the church. Although its principal aim is to prepare women and men of varied backgrounds and traditions for ordained and other forms of ministry, it also seeks to serve the church as a theological resource and as a center of continuing education for ordained ministers and lay leaders.

The faculty and trustees of Lexington Theological Seminary understand ministry to be both a divine calling and a learned profession. Preparation for such ministry at Lexington Theological Seminary takes place in at least three ways that are interdependent: theological, spiritual and pastoral formation.

The Seminary is a fully accredited graduate theological institution offering four degrees: Master of Divinity, Master of Arts, Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies (for Roman Catholics) and the Doctor of Ministry. The Master of Divinity can be taken with an emphasis on youth ministry or completed in conjunction with a Master of Social Work from the University of Kentucky. The Master of Arts can be completed with an emphasis in Sacred Music or Religious Education (for Roman Catholics). The Masters degrees require an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution; the Doctor of Ministry requires a Master of Divinity and three years work in ministry subsequent to its receipt.

The Seminary has over 175 students enrolled each year; more than half of whom are women. The student population is balanced between "traditional" students coming straight from college and those who come to Seminary after having worked and served in other areas. Although affiliated with the Christian Church (DOC), LTS lives out the Disciples ecumenical tradition by accepting students from all denominations.

The Seminary provides generous financial assistance to all degree-seeking students.

Master of Divinity students serve in churches or other church/service related ministries. This "field education" experience - practical application of classroom learning - is at the core of our program and students are mentored by local ministers in addition to their work with the faculty.

Whether it be by training persons to be pastors in a local congregation or other traditional setting, assisting doctoral students in developing advanced skills or in helping lay leaders provide more effective leadership in their individual settings, LTS is committed to strengthening the church's participation in God's mission for the world.
