2007 Seminarians Conference

The Disciples Seminarians Conference gathers all M.Div. students who have completed at least one year of study for a time of fellowship, networking, worship, and learning about the wider ministries of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). This is your chance to meet other new leaders of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and learn how the church can help you and the congregation or organization you lead to minister faithfully and effectively.

Scarritt BennettWhere is it?
The conference begins with dinner at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 12, and concludes after lunch Sunday, April 15.

Where is it?
The Scarritt Bennett Center, adjacent to Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, has private rooms with every two rooms sharing a bathroom. The SBC campus is within walking distance of the Disciples of Christ Historical Society and the Disciples Divinity House at Vanderbilt. Scarritt Bennett is about 15-30 minutes from Nashville International Airport. Its address is 1008 19th Avenue South, Nashville, TN 37212. The phone number is 615-340-7500, and web site is www.scarrittbennett.org. Scarritt Bennett can accommodate special lodging, dietary, or other needs. The conference is not able to accommodate children or spouses.

Who will I meet there?
Approximately 80 M.Div. students of all ages and backgrounds are expected to attend. You are the focus of this event!

Special speakers at the event include:
Representatives of general ministries will also be present to talk about their ministries and how they support your ministry.

We won't have falling leaves this time -- we'll have buds.
What else will happen:
  • Workshop sessions on health issues, managing your finances, spirituality while serving, and the search and call process.
  • New Church Ministries will fill you in on the explosion of new congregations across the country and how you can be involved.
  • Cokesbury will have a bookstore open Thursday and Friday
  • The Disciples of Christ Historical Society will provide tours of their museum Friday afternoon
  • Thursday night: The Disciples Divinity House at Vanderbilt will host a reception for our group.
  • Friday night is free - go explore Nashville!
  • Saturday is the Disciples Roundtable. Ask any denominational leader any question you'd like.
How much is registration?
Be part of the worship teamThe previously announced late fee has been waived — registration is $95. Your registration includes three nights of lodging and all meals during the conference.

Registration is now closed. The conference will accept no registration on-site.

What about travel?
The conference has limited funding for travel subsidy on a first-come, first-served basis. The subsidy, if needed, will depend on the distance from Nashville to your campus.

  • Students at Disciples-related schools should contact your school for information on group travel.
  • For students at non-Disciples schools,
    • If your campus is within 50 miles: No reimbursement available.
    • If your campus is 51-300 miles from Nashville: You are encouraged to carpool. Drivers will be reimbursed 25 cents/mile. For each passenger you add, up to 4 passengers, you will receive an extra 5 cents per mile.
    • If your campus is 301-500 miles from Nashville: The conference will reimburse up to $200 for a plane ticket or mileage as described above.
    • If your campus is more than 500 miles from Nashville: The conference will reimburse up to $250 for a plane ticket or mileage as described above.
You must contact HELM by phone at 314-991-3000 to arrange for your travel subsidy. Have your seminary's street address ready when you call.

Remember, funds are limited, so don't wait. Once funding has been exhausted, no more travel subsidy will be available. Payment will be made following the conference when you provide a receipt for travel or the total miles traveled. (If paying for the plane ticket yourself creates a hardship, please contact HELM.)
