HELM Leadership Fellows Program adds Class of 2012
The HELM Leadership Fellows Program welcomes its largest class in six years with the addition of seven students to the program. HELM Leadership Fellows are selected based on their leadership potential, church participation, and academic promise. The new Leadership Fellows are:
- Tom Calvert-Rosenberger of Bloomington, Ind.
- Arrington Foster of Clinton, Md.
- Melissa Hall of Goldsboro, N.C.
- Kiersten Hawes of Horn Lake, Miss.
- Charisse Knorr of Maryville, Mo.
- Allie Lundblad of Asheville, N.C.
- Alan Moore of Spring Hope, N.C.

Campus Chaos III crowns a new champion
Congratulations to University Christian Church of Fort Worth, Texas, this year's Campus Chaos champion! Their entry, "Shooter Jennings and Depeche Mode for church," won the final round of voting to win the title. Kudos also go to Hiram College, whose "Hiram Community Share" made it to the finals. Many college classrooms are thought of as "religion-free" zones, even when it comes to the hot topic of the origin of life on earth. A movie now in theaters examines the academic rift between evolution and intellegent design — and the controversy that resulted when one professor lost her job just for offered the idea that evolution isn't the only theory. This has Sarah Cheon thinking about where God and science overlap.
A class on the sacred in religion and film introduced Caroline Hamilton to the idea of a scary God. Then a song confessing how much we don't know about God's power reinforced the concept. While Caroline still likes the idea of God walking beside her, her new concept of God larger than we can comprehend gives her a new sense of awe and of what is sacred in our world.
