Finding time for God

David Weuste An increasing problem for a lot of people is how to find time for God in a busy schedule. As a new college student, this has definitely become an increasing dilemma for me. From going to class, to studying, to homework, to practice, rehearsals, and performances, to trying to have somewhat of a social life, finding God-time is a difficult task. Yet, this seems to be a task that almost everyone suffers from in our extremely busy, fast-paced world.

A lot of people suggest setting aside Bible study and devotion times or quite times. I tried this last semester with a Disciples-led bible study, but I found that this just added one more thing to my time commitment list. So, I looked for excuses not to go so that I could do other school-related things to have some time to relax. I do go to Active Disciples on Campus as often as possible, but I usually feel like it is an obligation as a disciple sometimes more than a God-time.

I have found that the best way for me to keep up with my faith is to notice God all around me. Instead of setting aside a specific time, I have started just looking for God in everyday situations. Scriptures tell us that we should pray without ceasing, and I have attempted to start doing more devotion through that avenue than setting aside specific times. And in this attempt to keep up with my spiritual life and my college life I have found the best way for me to put them together. So, whenever I hear people talking about not having the time for God anymore, I start telling them that they should just start finding ways to talk to him when doing other things because God is in everything around us and so we can use our busy schedules as new ways to connect with Him.
