God's museum: A life lesson

Emily McIntyre Volunteering at Hampton University's museum is a task I look forward to during the day. Helping and catering to the community and my peers through work at the museum is a pleasure. During my time at the museum, I spend so much time admiring the artwork displayed. I love the life artists' put into their work. In artwork I can see the meaning of strokes in paintings and the emotion through sculptures.

Not too long ago when I escaped from volunteer duties to have a moment with one of my favorite sculptured pieces, I had a sudden epiphany. I thought of God and the time he took to sculpture the world, all its beautiful aspects and especially His people.

The world is God's museum. I feel His greatest piece of work was people. Each person he made distinctively different using different strokes, colors, feelings and emotion.

Oftentimes in life we fail to appreciate the little things about ourselves and others. It is important to find the good and positive qualities in people. God sculptured all people differently for a purpose. We must learn from one another, teach each other and be thankful for God's will to make us all unique.

A major problem in today's society is judgment. We so often judge one another before taking the time out to discover the art and beautiful color within each other. It is only God's task to judge us. We must not waste in life judging one another. Also, only God is perfect. He is the artist and we are his work of art. Everyone is mixed with a little blue and a splat of black, because we are sinners and life is not always a joy ride. But God rejuvenates us with new and brighter light so that we may shine again.

A life lesson: I urge us as a people to reevaluate ourselves when stereotyping and judging each other. There is so much to learn from one another that will be missed if we do not take the time to appreciate each other.

I am so thankful for God making us all sculptures in His image. I am even more thankful to be apart of his museum and to share a life with all of his artwork.
