Improvement

Arrington Foster As I returned home last weekend from my first year of college, I realized I have seven semesters left until I graduate from TCU. Time has really flown by this past year and like the saying says, "Time flies fast when you're having fun," and have fun I did. I met some great people, made some wonderful friends, bonded with professors and students and just had a good time on my own. There was a lot to learn since it was my first time being away from my parents. I had to do the laundry every week, had to buy groceries, and manage my money on my debit card. I had to make sure I got to class on time and make rehearsals and meetings, as well as study for exams or do my homework without my mom having to tell me to. But what I realized was that college wasn't as hard or scary as I made out for it to be.

College to me is all about responsibility and time management or what I like to call "balancing school (hard work) and fun (play time)." It's something that needs to be figured out as soon as possible; it makes the next three years of college easier. I learned to manage both very well. Of course I have to work on it and get better. I would like to improve and do better on my grades next semester, but Imaintained a B average for my first two semesters, pretty good for my first year of college. But I know that if I buckle down and discipline myself even more I can achieve greater academic success.

Along with doing better in academics, I believe there is another area I want to do better at and that is reading my Bible more and attending church. I It is very hard to find a new church home, especially when your adjusting to a new place. I loved my church home back in Maryland, and since arriving in Texas, I still haven't found one yet. So finding another church home when I'm at school will be on the top of my priority list. I also know that I pray a lot, but God doesn't want us to just pray. I know he wants us to read His word because in His word, He tells us what we should do, that he should answer all are questions that we have. It's how we can hear from him. Scripture is like our conversation with God, aside from prayer, and is something that I am improving on and would still like to do even better next semester.

As for theatre I know in my last story I was very excited for things to come, and it happened last month. I was in my first main stage show at TCU, a musical called "A Chorus Line." I played a "Roy," a minor character who was a dancer who gets cut in the beginning audition. I was also an offstage singer for the rest of the show. I definitely learned patience while being in the show. It really bothered me at first because I wanted to be more than just a minor character, but it's so true when they say "you have to start from somewhere." It may have been a small part, but it was such a great experience, and it taught me so much. Just being around these upperclassmen who knew what they were doing and being under a great director/choreographer, I learned so much. The show was a huge success, one of the biggest turnouts for TCU. We sold out three of the six shows; the other three were very close to selling out. Theatre TCU was also feature in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, which had stopped doing reviews at colleges, but had decided to come and review us. They gave us great reviews. I am so glad to have experienced this and can't wait to get better and better, receive more training and I know that one day I'll get more major roles. I have a lot of improving to go through next year as a sophomore, but I can't wait to take on the challenge.
