Purpose Driven

Emily McIntyre Each school year I set at minimum two goals for myself that must be obtained by my trip home for summer break. Achieving my goals is momentously important to me. It reveals my level of motivation, focus and consistency throughout the school year. There are many things that I would love to accomplish this school year. However, my mind focuses first on my goal of acceptance for a summer internship that will be essential to my knowledge and experience with Broadcast, which is my major. My heart is focused on mentoring children, sharing life with them and friendship. Though my success with an internship is vital to my education, helping children is oxygen for me. Knowing that I have positively affected them and have breathed bright hopes and possibilities in their hearts and minds, will be a breath of fresh air.

I am thrilled to share that I began my first day of mentoring with the children at a community center near my school. The children are disheartened about life and their genius. A few show bravery in discussing their qualms in life; with having to worry about drug dealers and with that, not being able to play outside much. Some 6 year olds are discouraged because they do not know how to spell their name. Also, many of all ages face family and betrayal issues in their lives. The time we spend with them is obviously golden by their expressions when with us.

It saddens me to be aware of what they are enduring on a daily basis. However, it invigorates me to incorporate a release and some form of peace in their lives, at the best of my ability. I look forward to helping them with their homework. I also look forward to stepping in their shoes of life, no matter how big, and brace them to live out their purpose.

I have much to accomplish this school year for my education and for the heart. Being involved with something that has no purpose is pointless. God creates purpose in our lives and I believe I must live into my purpose in life by being active in situations with purpose. I pray God's strength as I strive to fulfill my goals and become closer to my purpose.
