Back to school

Allison Enari Jesus Christ never changes! He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
— Hebrews 13:8

That's really lucky for me because I change my mind all the time. Usually its small stuff, nothing too big. One big change I really look forward to, though, is the start of the new school year and the gradual changes it brings. The new school year brings new opportunities and experiences, new challenges and goals-things that I do welcome and am really excited about. So when people ask me how I am, I respond, "I'm really excited!" because I'm at school!!!

Most might think it strange, some might find it refreshing, but I really am happy to be back at school. See I've always liked the new school year. It means new school supplies, getting organized and prepared for the year ahead, and the new and exciting classes that I signed up for the previous semester. It's such a welcomed change from the monotony of my almost always-boring summers that I can't help being elated! And this year was especially great to go back to school because it meant I got to slide back into only being accountable for myself and my needs (that sounds kind of selfish, but you know what I mean, right?). I also get to see friends I hadn't seen all summer due to my hometown being no where close to anything. It isn't that I don't love my family, but four months really is a long time to be completely isolated from my Oxy community.

Anyway, this new year means singing new and fabulous music with Glee Club, new classes without being tortured by calculus, more people to meet and even more fun. It also means an on-campus job and leading an on-campus Christian group. Not only that, but Rugby World Cup is being played right now and seeing as its my favorite sport to watch (I'm too much of a chicken to actually play!) makes the beginning of this school year an exciting one.

What's most exciting to me is the fact that I don't know what I'm going to major in. It's not going to be chemistry or Spanish as I once thought going into college I've actually changed my mind and have no clue what I'm going to do. I get to explore where my strengths are and figure out how to apply the skills and knowledge I've gained for the glory of God.

Last year, not having a "ten-year plan" this would have really freaked me out, but this year I'm just rolling with the punches and it feels really good. I can do anything I put my mind to because, as John 3:16 puts it, "with God nothing is impossible." It's a great and new opportunity to explore what God is calling me to do. And exploring for me could range from examining careers in ministry to taking a movement class and getting more in tune with my body. I have options and even if I change my mind over and over, as I'm apt to do, Jesus won't change. And that's definitely a good thing that makes me really excited!
