    Working at a Texas social service organization, every day Kelly Rand sees people fighting poverty — an inability to pay for life's basic needs such as water or prescriptions, to meet one's basic needs without compromising moral values, or to share fully in a healthy family life and community. Poverty is violence, she believes, because society allows poverty to continue when it could be eradicated.
