Dickerson, Brown scholarships awarded to Brite, DDH-Chicago students
It's a rite of spring when HELM announces recipients of our two post-graduate scholarships.

The William Gilbert and Florence Leonard Jones Scholarship is given annually to a full-time student pursuing the degree of Doctor of Philosophy who is either preparing for ordination in, or already ordained in, the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and intends to provide leadership to a congregation or other agency of the church. This year's recipient is Joseph A. Weaks, a Brite Divinity School student and former pastor of congregations in Texas.

The Ann E. Dickerson Scholarships are for female Disciples working toward the Ph.D. degree in religion studies. First-time recipient Christy M. Newton is a student at Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, Calif., and pastors a congregation in Russellville, Ark. Repeat recipients Amy C. Artman and Patricia "Tish" Duncan are students at the Disciples Divinity House of the University of Chicago.

HELM helps two congregations disperse scholarship funds
Students at Hyde Park Christian Church in Austin, Texas, and First Christian Church of Winterset, Iowa, have benefited from good planning by past members and with help from HELM.

In Iowa, the Charles and Lois Taylor Scholarship Fund distributed $57,470 to 60 students from Madison County, Iowa. Further south, the Alvin and Elsie East Scholarship Fund provided 32 students, all members of Austin-area Disciples congregations, with $54,800 in scholarships.

A little bit can go a long way. In the past 20 years, these two funds had provided more than $2 million in scholarships. To learn more about how HELM can help your congregation make a lasting difference to your students, call 314-991-3000 or e-mail helm@ helmdisciples.org.
