INDIANAPOLIS - The Rev. Richard L. Hamm has provided 10 years of remarkable leadership as general minister and president for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). In honor of his retirement, the "Richard Hamm Leadership Fellow" has been established and will be coordinated through the Division of Higher Education's Leadership Fellows Program.

DHE's Leadership Fellows Program nurtures leaders for the church, both lay and clergy, through financial assistance, leadership development opportunities, and a covenant relationship between selected Disciples undergraduate students and the church.

Each academic year, a $2,000 scholarship will be awarded to an undergraduate student who expresses a commitment to serve the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in a future leadership capacity. The Leadership Fellow in turn will agree to assist in the leadership of a ministry activity or program on or near his or her campus, under the mentoring of a Disciples clergy member. In addition, the Hamm Leadership Fellow will be a guest of DHE's annual fellows' conference. The first Richard Hamm Leadership Fellow will be awarded in the 2004-2005 academic year.
