Parts of DHE Web Site Now Available In Spanish

In an effort to better serve Spanish-speaking and bilingual members of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), a portion of the Division of Higher Education web site is now available in Spanish.

The new portion of the web site, online at www.dhedisciples.org/espanol, includes information on:

  • Scholarships,
  • Colleges and universities,
  • Theological institutions,
  • Campus ministries,
  • DHE's ministries,
  • Ordination, and
  • A brief overview of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
At its April meeting, the DHE Board of Directors and staff agreed to produce web sites in Spanish and Korean. Miriam Cruz, a member of the DHE Board of Directors, translated the Spanish web site, and Gloria Jimenez reviewed the design. DHE Communications Director Brad Lyons created the web site's graphics and design.

"We want to make sure that all of the church's members - regardless of whether they speak English, Spanish, or Korean - can learn about our ministry," said DHE President Dennis Landon. "These are areas of rapid growth in the church, and we want to provide a welcoming web site to all our members."

The Central Pastoral Office for Hispanic Ministries reports almost 100 churches in the denomination where Spanish is a commonly spoken language. Most of those churches are in Texas (24), California (19), Florida (17), and New York (12).

DHE works to nurture transforming leadership for the church in partnership with the 14 universities and seven theological institutions in covenant with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). In addition, three schools and three theological institutions maintain historical or associate ties with the denomination. DHE is also affiliated with more than 80 campus ministries programs across the country. Including cooperative efforts with local congregations, DHE helped distribute almost $178,000 in scholarships in 2000.
