DHE and Phillips University Legacy Foundation Partner To Create New Scholarship For Students At Disciples Colleges and Universities
Division of Higher Education web site

Students attending Disciples colleges and universities will soon have a new scholarship program that will honor the tradition of Phillips University.

The Phillips board of trustees transferred $3 million of the university's remaining assets to the Phillips University Legacy Foundation. PULF will begin awarding annual scholarships to students attending Disciples colleges and universities who demonstrate potential for leadership in the church. In addition, PULF has agreed to work with the Division of Higher Education in administering the scholarship distribution process. Scholarship applications will be solicited early next year, with the first grants available for the 2002-2003 academic year.

"This is an important event for Disciples," said DHE President Dennis Landon. "This scholarship will help students at Disciples universities and colleges with leadership skills for the church. Phillips University has been an important institution to the church, and its legacy will live on in the scholarship program and the students whom it will benefit. On behalf of the church and its member institutions, we are extremely grateful for Phillips' decision."

Details regarding the scholarship distribution process will be announced this summer.
