William Gilbert and Florence Leonard Jones Scholarship

The William Gilbert and Florence Leonard Jones Scholarship is given annually to a full-time student pursuing the degree of Doctor of Philosophy who is either preparing for ordination in, or already ordained in, the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and intends to provide leadership to a congregation or other agency of the church. Established through an endowment gift by an anonymous donor, this award aims to recognize and encourage outstanding Disciples preparing for ministry. It also provides a minimum scholarship of $1,500.

A complete application for the Jones Scholarship includes:

  • An application form (PDF)
  • A typed essay of no more than 300 words describing the applicants vocational goals, academic interests and how s/he envisions being of service to the Church.
  • An official transcript
  • A copy of one of these documents:
    • completed 2008-2009 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form, or
    • completed 2007 Federal Income Tax Federal Return (1040, 1040A, 1040EZ)
All information must be postmarked no later than April 15, 2008.
