Troubleshooting PDF problems

Are you having problems opening a PDF? Here are a few suggestions:

  1. Save the file before trying to open it. In Windows Explorer, right-click on the link and select "Save Target As..." from the popup menu. In Netscape, right-click on the link and select "Save Link Target As..." Save the file in a place where you'll be able to find it easily. Try opening it from there.

  2. Do you have Acrobat Reader? In Windows, go to the Start Menu (in the lower right corner of your screen) and up to Programs. Look for the folder that has "Adobe Acrobat" in its name.
    • Open Adobe Acrobat Reader (or, if you are on a more sophisticated computer, simply Adobe Acrobat), and then open the PDF file.
    • No Acrobat? Try downloading it. Go to http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html and download the appropriate version for your computer and operating system. Install Acrobat, and try again.
Make sure you're not trying to open the PDF file within any other program. They aren't designed to handle PDFs, so often all you see is alphabet soup or error messages.

  3. Still no luck? E-mail helm@helmdisciples.org and let us know specifically what you're seeing, including any error messages that pop up. We'll do our best to help, even during weekends.
Good luck!
